In the newspaper industry, the phrase “above the fold” refers to the most valuable portion on the front page of a paper. Literally, it is the section above the fold. It is a journalist’s highest achievement to write a piece that is placed “above the fold”. Yet, journalists who don’t take risks in their writing don’t write articles that are put above the fold.
